Do You Need a Special Visa for Yoga Teacher Training in Bali?
No. Yoga teacher training in Bali falls under social and cultural visits, which means a standard tourist visa covers you. There is no special education visa required. Most students arrive on a Visa on Arrival (e-VOA), which is available to 81 nationalities and costs around $32 USD.
The type of visa you need depends on two things: your passport nationality and how long your course runs. A 200-hour YTT runs about 25 days and fits comfortably inside a 30-day VoA. A 500-hour course runs 55 to 65 days, which pushes past the VoA limit and requires a different approach.

What to Sort Before You Fly
Most students leave visa planning too late. By the time they realise they need a B211A or that their free visa will not cover their course dates, there is not enough time to arrange it properly. Here is the order to work through things.
Check your nationality
Use the checker above. Find out whether you are on VoA, free visa, or calling visa. This determines everything else.
Confirm your exact course dates
Get the start and end dates from your school. Count the days. If the course runs over 30 days, you need an extension or a B211A.
Contact your school early
If you need a B211A or calling visa, your school needs to act as your local sponsor. Do this as soon as you book — not the week before you fly.
Apply or prepare documents
VoA: apply online at molina.imigrasi.go.id 48 hours before departure, or pay at the airport. B211A or calling visa: your school handles the application.
Pay the Bali Tourism Levy
Separate from your visa. IDR 150,000 (~$10) paid at the airport. Download the Love Bali app before you fly to skip the queue.
Plan your extension if needed
If your course runs close to 30 days or you want post-course travel, visit Kantor Imigrasi at least 7 days before your visa expires.
Things That Catch Students Off Guard
Free visa is not extendable
Many students from ASEAN countries assume they can extend the free visa if they need more time. You cannot. If your course runs close to 30 days or you want post-course travel, apply for a VoA instead when you arrive.
Passport needs 6 months validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Indonesia — not from when you apply for a visa. Check this before you book anything.
500-hour VoA cuts it close
A VoA with one extension gives you exactly 60 days. Most 500-hour courses take 55 to 65 days. That leaves zero buffer for delays. B211A is the right visa for this course length.
The Bali Tourism Levy is separate
IDR 150,000 (~$10) paid to the Bali provincial government at the airport. Nothing to do with your visa. Download the Love Bali app before you fly to pay online and skip the counter.
Overstay fines are not small
IDR 1,000,000 per day — roughly $65 USD every day you overstay. If you overstay more than 60 days you face deportation and a re-entry ban. Set a calendar reminder 10 days before your visa expires.
Your school can help more than you think
Most established Bali YTT schools help students with extensions, B211A sponsorship, and agent referrals. Ask them on day one — not day 28.

Visa on Arrival (e-VOA)
Best for: 100hr, 200hr, 300hr courses
Pre-Departure
- Apply online at molina.imigrasi.go.id at least 48 hours before your flight — faster than paying at the airport counter.
- Alternatively, pay at the VoA counter on arrival at Ngurah Rai Airport. Cash (USD/EUR/AUD) or Visa/Mastercard accepted.
- Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.
- Have a return or onward ticket. Immigration may ask for proof.
At the Airport
- Pay the Bali Tourism Levy ($10) via Love Bali app or airport machine BEFORE joining the immigration queue.
- If you applied online: use the dedicated e-VOA lane at Ngurah Rai — faster queue.
- If paying at counter: join VoA counter first, then immigration queue.
- Check the expiry date stamped in your passport immediately — it should be 30 days from arrival.
During Your Course
- Set a phone reminder 10 days before your visa expires.
- To extend: visit your nearest Kantor Imigrasi at least 7 days before expiry. Bring passport, photo, photocopy of visa stamp, and proof of accommodation.
- Extension costs IDR 500,000 (~$32) and is typically processed same day to 3 working days.
- Ask your YTT school — many Bali schools assist students with extensions or can recommend a trusted local agent.
